Willemijn Botman

I was born and raised in the Netherlands and graduated from the Technical University of Delft, where I studied to be a marine engineer specializing in hydrodynamics.

During my studies, I became interested in the ‘renewable’ offshore sector, which also was my main focus during my master’s degree. In addition, my thesis was based on an internship at a company that develops offshore floating solar platforms.

Not long after my graduation I moved to Copenhagen and started a job in Cadeler.

Questions?

When I’m at work I use my skills to …?

Have a good balance between details and overview, between practical solutions and detailed technical assessments; how detailed do we need to go to ensure a safe and correct operation without losing sight of the bigger picture. I work within the project engineering department on all running and upcoming projects. This means that I am primarily focused on one project at the time, and in addition support the rest of the team on marine related subjects such as the stability or motion analyses of the projects.

I take a step forward when I …

Use my analytical skills to find the root of a challenge and assess how to address it. I am a ‘curious engineer’ at heart, and I always strive to be solution oriented. In Cadeler, it is crucial to teamwork and use each other’s expertise and experience – and with a growing business it is important to be able to tackle new scopes and have a healthy professional discussion with my colleagues.

In the future my main focus will be …?

To further develop our standards, processes, and operations. This goes hand in hand with a growing company where the engineering team is also changing. It is very exciting to be a part of this development in the company. In the near future, I will be particularly focused on the HKZ project, which will be launched in April 2022.

When I’m off work, I like to …?

Live life as a Copenhagener. One of the biggest reasons I moved from Holland was to expand my horizons and meet new cultures and people. I love the Danish and Swedish nature and enjoy spending my weekends in the company of good friends. I also play volleyball a couple of times a week.
