Last week was a big week for the offshore wind industry in Taiwan, with the completion of the Formosa I offshore windfarm, and a major conference in Taipei on Tuesday, 15th October, organized by the Asia Wind Energy Association.
The conference saw over 300 attendees representing every link in the offshore supply chain: leading developers like Ørsted and Macquarie, turbine OEMs such as Siemens Gamesa and MVOW, vessel owners like SPO and POSH and finance experts from Taiwanese and international banks.
Swire Blue Ocean’s Area Manager in Taiwan, Matt Bowden, was invited to present on the role the vessels of SBO’s parent company, Swire Pacific Offshore played in supporting the construction of Formosa I alongside three other key stakeholders in the project, Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa, and EPC contractor Jan De Nul. Each participant in the Formosa I panel was able to share a very different perspective on the project, and SPO’s first-hand experiences of the weather conditions and challenges involved in executing the vessel work scopes were well-received by the audience. A significant portion of the presentation content came directly from the Masters and crew on Pacific Valkyrie, Warlock and Liberty, who were happy to share their valuable insights.
“Swire’s invitation to participate in this conference panel represents SPO’s growing profile within the offshore wind industry, not only in Taiwan, but in north-east Asia, as a leading OSV operator,” said Matt Bowden. “For Swire vessels to be so prominently involved in Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore windfarm has been a real privilege,” he continued, “and the whole team is working hard to ensure we can build on this momentum in the years to come.”
