In February 2010, Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) completed the acquisition of Blue Ocean Ships A/S (Blue Ocean).
Blue Ocean, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, was established in 2007. The company has developed an innovative vessel design for the installation of wind turbines and foundations and provides a wide range of consultancy services. The acquisition brings together Blue Ocean's knowledge and expertise of the wind energy business with SPO's extensive offshore marine capabilities, reputation for high levels of performance and excellent safety culture. The Blue Ocean CEO, Lars Blicher, and Director of Business Development, Rikke Stoltz, both fully support the venture and will remain with the company which has been re-named Swire Blue Ocean A/S. The business aims to be a leading marine service provider to the offshore wind energy market.
Swire Pacific Offshore, headquartered in Singapore and supported by regional offices in 20 countries has become a trusted name in the offshore marine industry. The company has grown steadily since its inception in 1975 and currently owns and operates over 70 offshore support vessels. SPO operate a modern fleet, which includes the largest number of dynamic positioning (DP) vessels in the world, and has 18 new vessels under construction. SPO will provide strong corporate financial backing to Swire Blue Ocean A/S together with considerable experience gained from operating a full range of offshore equipment including Anchor Handling, Platform Supply, and Seismic vessels, Heavy Lift Crane ships, Jack-up production rigs, DSV / ROVs and Maintenance / Accommodation support units.
